Great Maintenance Services that can Restore Fuel Efficiency

It's about that time year, people are packing up and heading out. It's time for some fresh air in the great outdoors and often the best way to get there is by utilizing America's highway system. That's right, it's almost roadtrip season. In order to ensure that your vehicle is going to serve you as best it can it's important to give it the maintenance that it needs in order to maintain the best fuel efficiency possible. Head to your local auto maintenance center and have the following services performed so that you can go farther on a single tank of gas.

Fuel system Cleaning

Obviously one of the most important aspects of keeping your fuel system in good order is ensuring the fuel system itself is thoroughly cleaned and serviced. Most importantly you should change the fuel filter as necessary according to your owner's manual and utilize fuel injector cleaning liquid on occasion. However depending on their current condition it may be necessary for a technician to remove and clean the injectors to restore their functionality. Proper fuel flow allows your car to run as it should, and not struggle to create power.

Replace the Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are what ignite the air and fuel mixture in order to create the explosion that pumps the pistons. If they become dirty or corroded they may misfire which will result in an extreme lack of power, rough idle and a major drop in fuel efficiency. Spark plugs generally need to be changed approximately every 30,000 miles. Consult your auto mechanic about this service to see if your vehicle is due.

New Air Filter

One of the easiest and most important services you can do for your car to ensure that it gets great fuel efficiency is install a new air filter when the old one is dirty. If an air filter is clogged your vehicle will not be able to create the correct air and fuel mixture it needs for a smooth running engine, and the engine will compensate by burning excess amounts of gasoline. This will not only drop your fuel efficiency but it can also cause major engine damage because of the intense heat created by burning additional gasoline.

Clean/Replace Mass Air Flow Sensor

The mass airflow sensor is what monitors incoming air and calculates how much of it needs to be mixed with the fuel to create the correct mixture. If it becomes dirty or otherwise malfunctions it won't be able to do its job and this often results in too much fuel being burnt. Cleaning the sensor will ensure that the correct mixture is created.

There is no need to spend excessive amounts of time at the gas pump, just give your car the maintenance that it needs.
