Does My Car Need Radiator Repair?

Does My Car Need Radiator Repair? The cooling system has one tough job, keep the engine temperature regulated so that it doesn't, well, melt it self, more or less. One of the main components of the cooling system is the radiator, which recools the coolant that has flowed through the engine, thus displacing the heat. If you notice any of the following issues while driving your car you will want to visit a mechanic to find out if it is time for cooling system or radiator repair.

Rising Temperature Gauge

One of the first indications that there may be trouble would be a rising dashboard temperature gauge. You may also see a temperature warning light come on if your car's engine is getting to hot. The light somewhat resembles a telephone pole in a lake.

Overheating

If you miss the warning signs on your dashboard the next thing that may happen is your car's engine actually overheating. One of the first signs of this happening is usually white steam coming out from under the hood. This may also be indicative of a radiator leak and the steam is coolant turning to vapor.

White Exhaust Smoke

If the cooling system begins to leak inside the engine it may allow for the coolant, also known as antifreeze, to mix into the combustion chamber. This would result in puffy white exhaust smoke. If you ever notice strange exhaust smoke be sure to get to a repair shop for service right away, as the problem will only get worse.

Coolant Leak

Another obvious sign of trouble would be if you find a puddle of bright green, sweet smelling liquid collecting under the forward part of your car. This would be coolant. If your car is lacking coolant it will definitely cause your car to overheat. Remember, overheating will lead to major engine trouble that may only be able to be repaired through a complete rebuild or engine replacement.
